We all experience the frustration of tarnished and dirty sterling silver jewellery, especially if it’s intricate or matt finish. Here’s a way of cleaning a group of pieces easily, quickly and effectively all in one go..

Step 1: Line a metal tray with foil (shiny side up) and overlapping the sides.

Step 2: Place sterling silver items on foil.

Step 3: Pour boiling water into tray to cover pieces.

Step 4: Add 1 – 2 teaspoon of Bi carb Soda to water and wait for the reaction to happen.

Step 5: Just rinse and voila! An electrochemical reaction occurs which removes the tarnish from the silver as it is attracted to the aluminium.  Dry with a hair dryer to ensure pieces are completely dry.

Note: This is OK for diamonds and coloured Gem pieces but NOT for pearls which will be damaged by the boiling water.
